As the eve draws nigh…
by Matthew Gaertner
My boy, my dear, come beside my pool. Let me tell these facts.
-My lord, My liege, please tell me away. I’ll sit a while, and stay.
All day I stand in this pool of water, nearly up to my neck.
-Yes sir it is quite deep indeed.
I am the lord of the manor, and I am a bastion of order.
I’d like you to bring my bathing salts, and lavender to put in the water.
-Indeed sir, and it is nearing the late afternoon, shall I bring your snacks?
Yes my boy bring me my snacks and my bathing salts. Sprinkle the salts and lay the lavendar across the surface of water.
-Upon which of the snacks shall you nibble my lord, a custard croissant or some rum-pickled cod? Sweet peppered cheese or a mustard bun?
I’ll try them all.
-Fetching the treats, fetching the treats
when life is sweet then so is the meat.
Fetching the treats, fetching the treats,
alas, ahoy, away.
-My lord and liege is an admirable chap,
in pool water all day he stands.
For I foresaw it’d improve his posture,
-Fetching the treats, fetching the treats,
Alas ahoy away.
-Rum-pickled cod, herring and lard,
Expenditures on the Master’s Card.
Scandalous treats for the lord of course,
My master and my liege.
Dear boy I can smell the sweet meats as you approach. Oh I can smell the lavender as well, wafting in atop the meat so pungent.
-It is a fine platter today my lord. But answer a question of mine. Will you tell again of your youthfulness, if I sit and watch you dine?
My boy I’ll tell you something more. I’ll tell you of cephalization, the force the pulls the mind from the ass. The evolutionary law which gives us a brain.
-I know already of cephalization. I know you’re a fan of the spine. But sir, may I again you again, to answer this question of mine.
My youth was a joy before me, a treasure betrothed upon on me. Now I stand in a pool, and wait for the sun to fall. Now you shall bring more snacks. And make with the lavender and salt. I’ll wait here in the pool, and wait for the sun to fall.
